YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Whether you want downtime or adrenaline filled excitement or something in between, you can find it easily just minutes from your home away from home, Casa de Las Palmas. We would be delighted to help arrange activities for you as far as transportation, quad /ATV rental, tours, or shopping trips. Be sure to inquire when booking your reservation.

Kite Boarding / Windsurfing

In recent years, Los Barriles has come to be known as a top destination for kiteboarding and windsurfing enthusiasts. Continuous side-shore winds, white sandy beaches and flat medium size swells combine to give Los Barilles (East Cape) near perfect kiteboarding conditions. When you’re a guest at Casa de Las Palmas, you can launch your kite from the beach directly in front of the house. If you’re new to kiteboarding, a short walk down the beach will take you to ExotiKite, where all gear and equipment is supplied by certified instructors who offer kiteboarding lessons to all levels of students. Kiteboarding season is from November thru April where the wind blows a steady 18-30 knots. Several hotels on the bay rent windsurfing equipment and provide basic instruction.

Horse Back Riding on the Beach

What could be more romantic or picturesque than riding horses down a deserted white sand beach? Our friends at Betto's keep their horses in beautiful condition and your ride is guaranteed to be a wonderful experience you won't forget!

Scuba / Snorkeling

There are many local areas that provide excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities. Cabo Pulmo, (a short distance from the house) is just one of many great snorkel sites. As the only living coral reef on the western coast of North America, it stretches 11 miles down the coast. In 1995, the Mexican government officially declared it a protected Marine preserve. Snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo is second to none. Numerous tropical fish and live coral heads fill the shallow waters. Just a few yards further off shore, you will find larger game fish, moray eels, sea turtles and sometimes lobster. There are many diving spots on the East Cape for beginners and advanced divers and many excellent dive operations located on the East Cape.

ATV Rental

ATV's and 2- or 4-seater side-by-sides or Razors for the family are a great way to get around town and "live like a local." (Ask about the discounts available to our guests.) These vehicles provide adventurous rides up the arroyos to picturesque waterfalls. Rent an ATV and follow the coastline or go exploring on an inland adventure! The beautifully unique desert terrain wraps itself along the pristine blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Find hidden waterfalls, investigate desert arroyos and explore meandering trails or just indulge in a cool ride along the beach. If you want a guide, ATV guided tours are available to explore the more remote areas of Baja. Follow arroyos to caves where you can still see ancient Indian rock drawings or ride through beautiful terrain to local waterfalls where you can cool off with a dip in the icy cool waters of the pool below. Your guide may take you along the winding dirt road to Punta Pescadero, for snorkeling and a picnic lunch. The choice is yours, but this is a guaranteed fun way to spend the day!

Kayaking / Paddle Boarding

At Casa de Las Palmas we provide two hard-sided sit-on-top tandem ocean kayaks for our guests to use. Launch a kayak directly from the beach in front of the house. Glide over clear blue waters, explore hidden coves, bring a picnic lunch or your fishing rod. We also have stand up paddle boards for our guests to use.

Sport Fishing

The Sea of Cortez and Los Barriles has long been known to sport fisherman as a hidden gem with some of the most plentiful fishing in the world. Tuna, yellow tail, wahoo, dorado, sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin and striped marlin are just some of the local varieties found in abundance. You can drop your line from the beach directly in front of the house or charter a fishing excursion that can launch from anywhere in the East Cape. Many boats and crews are available for day trips at extremely reasonable rates. In early 2020 a new boat launch was built just down the beach from the Casa.

Hiking

The peaks of Los Barriles begin less than a mile from the beach so coastal breezes will cool you on your hike. Climb Picacho de los Barilles (peak of the barrels) which is covered in interesting plant life, including the huge Cardon Cactus. Photo are taken from the peak of Pichacho de Los Barilles overlooking the Sea of Cortez. There are also many hidden waterfalls to explore and discover either hiking or on an ATV.

Trip to Cabo

Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo and all the nightlife it offers is about a 60-minute drive from Los Barriles. There are restaurants, clubs and a wide variety of shopping options, ranging from upscale clothing boutiques, authentic art galleries to colorful flea markets and souvenir stalls. At the wharf, you can take a glass bottom boat tour out to Rock Arch or charter a deep sea fishing day trip or a whale watching tour. Plaza Artesanos in San José del Cabo, has dozens of vendors selling authentic Mexican crafts, ceramics, jewelry, rugs and blankets.

Wander, walk, swim, body surf... or just do nothing! Relax - you're on vacation!
